About Us
The one who converted me
We are a young family (husband, 4 cats and myself) living in Almere, The Netherlands.
You might be surprised to find out that I didn't like cats when I came to The Netherlands for a visit about 9 years ago. I just never had the opportunity to get to know them until I met a Dutchman along the way. He had a black moggie-Flabs- and they were a package deal. I tolerated her initially but started to love her after a while. Now, I think she loves me more than she loves the Dutchman haha! I suppose that's fair as Pip- that bloody traitor- prefers the Dutchman over me! Ungrateful! Now, I love cats and we both can't imagine ever living without at least one.
How we ended up with British Shorthairs is a happy coincidence. We were looking for a red cat (a moggie) on Marktplaats and saw some really cute photos of 2 British Shorthair kittens from a Nigerian scammer. Of course, when we did more research (too cheap + apparently the kittens were in the UK;) ), we realized this was too good to be true.
After this, we couldn't quite forget this beautiful breed and started learning about British Shorthairs, pedigrees, breed standards and the like. We adopted Pip (not through Marktplaats;)) and later, we also kept Pechje from our first nest and Eleanor from our 2nd nest. Pipje and Eleanor are the only ones who can breed among our 4 cats.
We foresee more British Shorthairs joining us in the future but my husband has made me promise that I will not become a crazy cat lady (kattenvrouwtje) so we will probably have at most 5 cats at any one time;) Our policy is if we have a cat, it is for as long as it shall live (hopefully a long time!) so we will be timing any new additions to our family slowly and carefully. In any event, we both work full-time so to we must make sure that cats and kittens always have enough attention. So far, with careful planning, a lot of commitment from us both, and some flexibility, we have been able to juggle having a cattery (my hobby) with our jobs and our private lives. We generally take quite a lot of days off (annual leave) when we have kittens.
We love all our 4 cats and our kittens dearly. I have been lucky to have met some lovely breeders along the way who have kindly shared their experience and knowledge with a keen, novice breeder like myself as well as kitten owners who are devoted to their kittens.
